At Nat Geo WILD, we’re animal people. Dog people. Cat people. Even sloth people. Straight-up animal lovers, each and every one of us. Which is why for the fifth annual Wild to Inspire Short Film Contest, we’re asking you to turn the camera on the animal people in your community. The local vet. Dog walker. Farmer. Cat lady. Beekeeper. Nature trail guide. Zookeeper. Environmental advocate. And, of course — your animal-obsessed friends and family. The ultimate goal is to provide an intimate portrait of an individual and the role of animals in his or her life.
Create a short documentary film (three minutes or less) featuring an animal lover in your community, and you could win a trip to the Sun Valley Film Festival to screen your film for a chance at the grand prize: a National Geographic Expedition where you’ll find out what it’s really like to be a National Geographic filmmaker. You could end up on a safari in Africa, cruising the jungle waterways of the Amazon River Basin, tracking polar bears outside the North Pole – the possibilities for adventure are endless.
Judging will be based on the following criteria:
- Connection to the theme of featuring a true “animal lover”
- Quality of storyline and script
- Creativity and/or content originality
- Production quality (e.g., lighting, shot composition, focus, sounds)
Inspire us. Make us laugh. Or cry. Maybe you’re an established filmmaker; maybe this is your first film ever. There are no hard and fast rules — the sky’s the limit. We can’t wait to meet our fellow animal people.
